Why do I see shared links on Safari when I don't have a twitter account?

I had never clicked on the shared links button in Safari, but today I decided to see what is was, and there's a bunch of trash in there. It seems this is for people to share sites with others via twitter, but I don't even have a twitter account and no one uses my ipad but me. How did this trash get on safari and how do I get rid of it? Thank you.

No, I mean when I tap Bookmarks, and there are three icons: bookmarks, reading list and an @ symbol. The @ symbol is Shared Links. The list of shared links that appears in that drop down is full of trash. I haven't clicked on any of them, but the titles say it all. I don't like the fact that these are there at all.

This is something I found that explains the Shared Links:

The Shared Links feature in Safari can pull from Twitter and LInkedIn so you can easily access all the links your friends are sharing without ever even visiting each respective website.

These are obviously not from anyone I know. I don't have a twitter account and I don't use linkedin for anything other than work and not on my ipad.

I want to turn this off or delete the list!

Sorry, this is REALLY frustrating! I don't have any social network access. I don't have Twitter, I don't even use Facebook. I am 100% sure none of my contacts could share anything with me except via email or messaging without these social networks. No one has downloaded any apps on my ipad; I'm the only one with my password.

The stuff I see on Shared Links looks like spam. There are DOZENS of entries here for **** sites and they all have the twitter bird beside them, which as I've stated, I don't have a twitter account!

It really ticks me off that this knd of trash can pop up on my ipad without my control, and apparently I can't get rid of it. I can't even delete Safari, which I would love to do because I use Chrome for almost everything.

Try this:

Settings.Twitter.Delete any accounts that show.

or if you have a twitter account go to the web and

#
Revoke access from the web at twitter.com

To revoke the Twitter for iPhone app’s access to your account from the web:

  1. Sign in to your account from a desktop or laptop computer.
  2. Go to your Apps settings. GEAR button drops down to SETTINGS
  3. Locate the, APPS (left column) iOS for Twitter application and click Revoke access. (Save it)
  4. REBOOT the phone....all LINKS will be gone after reboot
