Why won't my ipod touch 5th gen recognize my TV?

I used to watch music videos through the music app on my ipod touch. I have a lightning to HDMI adapter that plugs directly into my tv. As soon as I plugged it into my ipod touch, it would recognize the TV and fill the screen with video. Suddenly, now it just clones the ipod screen onto the TV, so what I see on my TV is a vertical rectangle that looks just like my ipod screen. Same ipod, same TV, same cables. For a test, I tried plugging in my iphone 5s, and it reacted appropriately. So the problem is obviously with my ipod. Can anyone help me fix this?

Next

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Reset all settings

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

- Restore from backup. See:

iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
