Because you may not have the correct driver version. When you say download, what exactly did you download?
Download means grabbing off the internet or a server.
Install means to put in its place.
Have you installed the download?
Is your all your data backed up from prior to the download via a Clone or Time Machine backup?
What Deskjet model do you have?
Is Spotlight indexing?

Which os did you download? Your system profile shows you only have 10.6.3! Use Software Update to update your os to 10.6.8 and anything else that needs to be updated including any HP drivers.
Check Apple's Knowledge Base for Snow Leopard & Lion Printer solutions and suggestions.
Gutenprint and Gimp-Print for Mac OS X (10.2 and later)
10.6.8 is available here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
And has very little difference from 10.6.3 in terms of compatibility, and may even be more compatible, since 10.6.8 ended up being the only version of 10.6 Apple kept somewhat up to date on security. The one exception is Java, which is mentioned here:
https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-5532
Do not upgrade to 10.7 or later without reading this tip first:
https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6271
http://support.apple.com/kb/dl907
will give you support for the HP drivers listed here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669
which may need to be preceeded by the drivers on HP's website or followed by. In other words some drivers may only work from HP's website only after installing:
http://support.apple.com/kb/dl907
While others will work before. But this download will only work properly on 10.6.8.
Not knowing your specific Deskjet, it is hard to say if it will be supported or not.
