Access Windows file shares on Mac

Hi all,
I am trying to access some file shares on a Windows 2003 server from a Mac running 10.4.7.

I can log in to the server but the only Share I see is something called "Microsoft UAM Volume". Does anyone know how to access the other shares that I have set up on the Windows server?

Thanks!

Based on the information you've supplied, you've got File Services for Macintosh installed on your Windows server. The one item you see is the default Mac "volume" that is created during the installation. The "Microsoft UAM Volume" is probably of no use to you in today's world.

One thing to learn is that a Windows "share" is not the same thing as a Macintosh "volume". They are similar in what they do, which is share content to your connecting workstations. But Windows shares share content to your Windows and SMB clients while Macintosh volumes share content to your Macs.

You need to first need to decide if you want your Mac(s) to connect to your server via SMB or AFP (a Mac's native file sharing protocol). If you want to connect your Macs via SMB then have them connect in the Go --> Connect To Servers... window using a connect string such as "smb://serverName". If you want to connect your Macs using their native AFP file sharing protocol then you need to create Mac volumes using the Computer Management console.

Hope this helps! bill
