Connecting to airport automatically

My desktop G-5 computer automatically connects to the internet through airport when I start up. I cannont get my powerbook to do this. I have to always connect by selecting the network from the menubar.

Any help appreciated.

Powerbook G-4, Mac OS X (10.4.7)

To automatically connect to your AirPort network, use the "Preferred Network" option on the AirPort tab.

System Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort
- By default, join: Preferred Network

I have my airport set to preferred network. I have also tried the location as automatic and "Home" (my network) and it still won't connect automatically.

...and do you have "Automatically join an open network" set in the Options button on the AirPort tab?

I went back and checked, and yes it is set to automatically join an open network.

Same problem here. I have 2 powerbooks and after a restart one alwyas joins the airport network. The other (this one) won't I've tried all of the above mentioned things and none of them work. Is there a preference file somewhere that can be deleted?

Hello!

try deleting the items (or the specific item in question) from:
Users/YOURNAME/Library/Application Support/Apple/AirPort

I had the same problem after upgrading to 10.4.8 from 10.4.7, and deleting the files in the above directory solved my problem.
