Software updates service issues

Hi,

Excuse my english ;-)

I have two differents issues with software updates.

First:

Two different OS X 10.9 servers with same updates same installation (I made personaly server install), different lans. At first server, setup software updates and config clients (all mavericks) with http://server1name.local:8088/index.sucatalog, all is working. Second server if I use http://server2name.local:8088/index.sucatalog the clients can't find server. (dns is working fine and ping to servername working, no firewall and telnet to port 8088 working. If I try http://server2name.local:8088/catalog.sucatalog, no error, but updates don't works.

Second:

I have a server with software update service. Macs clients are updating from http://servername.local:8088/index.sucatalog and working. If I lock internet connections to all mac clients Software update failed, can't connect to app store. Is possible updates clients without internet connection? Only server has internet connection to download updates.

Thank You.

OS X Mavericks (10.9.3)

Hi, some checks:

note existing values.

run this command on your client machines to confirm their SUS config:

defaults read /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL

run one of these commands on say two client machines to confirm the SUS config issue is DNS related:

defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL http://1.2.3.4:8088/index.sucatalog

defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL http://5.6.7.8:8088/index.sucatalog

server1 ip: 1.2.3.4 subt for configured server ip address

server2 ip: 5.6.7.8 subt for configured server ip address

do for server3 as well

See how you go
