How do I get a Google calendar to not show up in Mac OS X Calendar?

When I hide a Google calendar from the calendar list online, the calendar continues to show up on Mac OS X Mavericks Calendar. How can I get that calendar to not show up in Apple's Calendar without completely deleting it from my Google account?

To manage which Google calendars appear on any Apple device/platform , simply add the Google account to iCal.

Then login to your Google account via browser and visit:

https://www.google.com/calendar/iphoneselect

This will allow you to edit which calendars show up on iPad/iPhone/iCal. You may have to close iCal and restart and wait a few seconds for the change to take effect. For calendars to appear on this this you have to have rights to them via your normal Google calendar interface.

If you use Google Apps, you can also go to:

https://www.google.com/calendar/hosted/your_domain/iphoneselect

In place of your_domain, put your actual domain... (e.g. apple.com)

If you are using a Gmail account through Mail, in the Settings online you can select a Label to be shown or not shown in IMAP to determine if it shows up as a mailbox in Mail. I want to be able to determine which of my Google Calendars are shown in my calendar list on Calendar. I'm assuming this is something that just is not present in the swap of metadata between Google Calendars and Calendar. Perhaps Google Calendars somehow needs its own version of the "Show in IMAP" checkbox present with Gmail.

My reason is that I have several calendars that I use periodically for different courses I teach, but, when I'm not currently teaching that course and have no immediate need for using that calendar, I prefer to not have it cluttering up my long list of calendars during that time. It seems the only way to get it to do what I want is to completely delete the calendar and then re-create it when I need it again down the road.

I am just going to give you examples of what I think you want to do.

This just shows you a list of my calendars in my iCloud account. Note the "Hide" to the right of the "iCloud"? That only appears when you hover the mouse over it.

This shows what happens with you click on the "Hide".

Notice that I've unchecked "The Boys" calendar? That makes all of the events that are located under "The Boys" to disappear.

This just shows what happens with I re-check "The Boys", note "Joo's Medication" is now showing on June 1 at 12PM?

This just shows what happens when you click "Calendars" that is next to the "+" in the gray area.

So any of my examples what you are thinking of?

You cannot hide the name of the calendar itself. The best you can do is uncheck it as in the screenshots above so that the events belonging to that calendar do not show up in the Calendar app.

Can you explain in more detail why you want to hide a single calendar, and why hiding its events would not work for you? Perhaps there are other approaches which might be more appropriate for you.
