Q: Really lost on installing Mavericks...any help?

OK, I am totally lost. I have 2 partitions on my hard drive. I did a test on Lion a couple of years ago and put that on one partition and still have Snow Leopard on the one I use daily. Haven't been into Lion for a while and never did put the final version on there...but have 2 HD's on my desktop, Lion and Snow Leopard. A couple of week's ago I decided to update Lion to Mavericks to test it before I install on Snow Leopard. I restarted and selected the partition with Lion and signed in, about info said I was on Lion, did the install for about 45 minutes, said I was on 10.9.3. Then I switched to Snow Leopard and that showed on Mavericks also, but startup disk showed Lion. Thought I messed up but lost emails so contacted FiOS and they got my emails back after an hour so thought OK. But was strange because the startup disk kept showing weirdly, like the same for Lion and Snow Leopard. Now when I go into the Lion partition it shows 10.6.8 and startup disk Snow Leopard...why isn't it startup disk Lion or even Mavericks? And where did Mavericks go??? When I installed Mavericks it didn't ask to do any certain type of install so just did an install and left all my files, etc., (want to see if my Quark will work in Mavericks) and when said was on 10.9.3 Quark still seemed to work. Now when I restart and go back to Snow Leopard or Lion it shows 10.6.8 and startup disk Snow Leopard for both partitions...So what happened to Mavericks??? I really would like to install Mavericks on ONLY the Lion partition and leave my current programs there. Can someone tell me exactly how to do that and what it should show under About this Mac when I restart and select the other partition??? I have no idea where Mavericks went or if it is somewhere on here. Snow Leopard I have my apps lined up along the left and Lion it is along the bottom - snow leopard has a different background (a picture) when in it and Lion has a generic blue background so I am sure I am going between partitions, aren't I? I just do a restart and select the other partition and sign in. When I was in Mavericks once I had some option in the top right corner to switch between partitions and seemed to be able to just switch them, but none of that is there now and no Mavericks anywhere I can find. Any help is greatly appreciated. Can anyone tell me where Mavericks is and how and I can only upgrade the 2nd partition with this - don't want to touch my Snow Leopard in case issues in Mavericks. Thanks. Gary

    Your screenshot doesn't show here.

Does the mavericks startup show more than one user account in System Preferences - Users & Groups ?.

The screenshot is visible in the 2nd post. That suggests that you'll find a user named GJFS in System Preferences - Users & Groups. If so, use the Log out... command from the Apple menu, then try to sign in to that account.

Yes, User/Groups shows Gary Schnetter (Snow Leopard) and GJFS (the new user I thought I imported to Mavericks, both under Other users. Here is a screen shot of Mavericks:

Migration brought over your User from Snow Leopard as a separate user. It did not merge into your current User.

You can bring over the files via the Shared folder.

Drag from Shared (it actually copies) to the new User. Be careful about your disk space.

I like to use folders I create not the root folders in Users. Drag items from Desktop into the “desktop” folder you created. If you drag the root folder it can give you permissions issues when you copy into the new User.

Move your data to a new User or a new Mavericks partition

I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

I am sorry, I am a very basic user and am lost. There is "no" shared folder in Mavericks. I can see a shared folder when I select Snow Leopard while in Mavericks, but there is nothing in it except Canon, Canon_inc_IC and Library with one adobe thing in it. Users shows this:

    >>Yes, User/Groups shows Gary Schnetter (Snow Leopard) and GJFS

So, click the Apple menu, choose Log Out... then at the Login window, select the other user that you want.

    Your image did not upload.

By default the Macintosh HD is not enabled in Mavericks.

In the Finder, select Finder Preferences.

    Click on Sidebar

    Check Hard Disks

I suggest checking your Home folder as well.

In a Finder Window, click on Macintosh HD > Users > Shared

OK, now have hard drives on desktop. I used that swivel option and signed into GJFS (which is the new user folder i supposedly migrated to Mavericks) and the files are there. When I am in this GJFS I can select the Mavericks hard drive and it shows under users: Deleted Users, Desktop, garyschnetter (Snow Leopard) user, GJFS (new user I renamed when migrating to Mavericks), gsnicker (Mavericks user folder) and Shared. Why when I go into Mavericks can't I see those??? I am lost on creating a Shared folder. Are you meaning to transfer the files in GJFS to the Shared folder I can see on Mavericks???

OK,  back in Mavericks with hard drives showing. Clicked on Mavericks. I do have the files here as usable under Deleted Users. The snow leopard users folder of garyschnetter has the red circle with a minus and can't alter those when try to, GJFS also has red circle and can't change those folders. Can those two be deleted from Mavericks and remove garyschnetter from Deleted Users folder and will those then be active and give me my old emails and bookmarks, address, book, etc., if I restart???

Won't let me copy all those in deleted folder. How can I get rid of all user folders in Mavericks and get the user folder from Snow Leopard into Mavericks. That is what I need to do. Need my emails, favorites, iTunes music, iPhoto photos, etc., and apparently all that is connected in Snow Leopard. I need to get rid of GJFS completely and gsnicker user folders and just have my Snow Leopard garyschnetter user active in Mavericks so all the above are useable in Mavericks. At this stage what can I do? Thanks.

Try again to post an image.

    Command-Shift-3 takes the entire screen

Command-Shift-4 takes a portion of the screen. <--use this one

It's really hard to follow the different User names etc.

Did you look at the link I posted to move to a new User?

Yeah, I looked at that link but I am lost, nothing ever says where you should be and exactly what to select, etc. Says make a shared drive but I have no idea how to do that. I'm not techy and have no idea how to do all this system stuff, sorry. This is user/groups in Maverick and Maverick Users folders:

    Mavericks copy.jpg

The only folder above usable in Mavericks is gsnicker which has just the installed options. I need garyschnetter or GJFS and I need to get rid of that GJFS user once that is in Mavericks. Just need all my emails, itunes music, iphoto pictures, files, pictures, etc., from garyschnetter to be in Mavericks and work in Mavericks. I so appreciate you trying to help this idiot...
