Windows can't recognize 5th Generation Classic?

So I recently bought a used 5th Generation Classic. I came home to find out that it's formatted for Mac, which is why iTunes doesn't even detect it and Windows simply identifies it as an "Unrecognized USB device". I know that I have to reformat it to Windows by restoring it in iTunes in order for it to work, but how am I supposed to do that if iTunes, and the computer itself, barely know it's there when plugged in via USB? This is driving me nuts and no research seems to help me.

iPod classic, Windows 7
