Q: Will an iPad 2 be upgradable to iOS 8?

I have an iPad first gen that only was upgradable to iOS 5.11.  I am thinking about getting a refurbished 2nd Gen.  Will that be upgradable to iOS 8 when it comes out this Fall, or should I look for a newer refurb gen like a 3rd or Air?

iPad, iOS 5.1.1

Many iPad 2 users have successfully updated to the latest version, but many seem to be having problems.  Personally, I think it is always risky to install a very new and advanced upgrade on an older device.  IOS 8 can run on an iPad 2. but it's hardware is not up to all the new tasks and it will, at the very least, run slower than before.  Apple says these updates will work on old devices, but that doesn't mean that every upgrade will go well.  At some point, it becomes necessary to upgrade the device to keep up with newer technology.

Even while writing this post on my iPad I am having issues with copying and pasting... Sorry if this post appears twice. I cannot believe Apple didn't know that the new software would not work very well on the iPad 2. It probably would have been better if they had left the iPad 2 out of the update.

My iPad 2 has another problems since the upgrade: the cellular status in the upper left corner of the screen shows “No Service” when I know very well that there is service in the area.

Beyond that, I have similar issues as others here have stated: freezing apps, etc.

Is it possible to restore iOS 7.xx to our iPad 2s?

My IPad 2 keeps telling me I have to purchase things I have already paid for, since I updated to latest versionma couple of days ago.  Now I have another version waiting to download, but am too scared to do that.  Apple need to fix this, as I cant afford to buy a new IPad just because they think I can!!!

Another unhappy iPad 2 owner here.

Apple knew **** well that the iPad2 would suffer performance problems with iOS 8. And guess what? Many of the iPad2 owners will now buy a new tablet as a result, exactly what Apple planned for.

I will probably buy a new tablet as well as a result of this, but it sure as bleep won't be an iPad.

I bought the iPad 2 last year as a new supported device. Since the 8.0.2 update it will no longer rotate the image to landscape view. What is happening here Apple?

WEll i am NOT planning to buy a new tablet Apple.  My ipad 2 works perfectly and there is no plan in the near or distant future for me to upgrade to a new tablet.  Please fix the bugs you have instilled in your ios 8 version.  right now i am very frustrated And wish i had never accepted version 8.

I apparently lied because today my iPad 2 will not stay connected to my Wi-Fi. Come on Apple fix it, I am so frustrated. When I purchased my iPad 2 with 32 gigs and cellular data connection it was well over $900. I cannot buy another one. I need my iPad to be working properly. I wonder, is Apple even monitoring this thread to know that we have issues with the iPad 2?

THe least Apple could do is warn people that the new version may not be 100% compatible with older devices, or give people with such devices the option to return to the previous version.  If i knew how to go back to ios 7 I would do it.  Does anyone out there know how to get IOS 7 back?
