Q: Automatically download all attachments

In mail - preferences - accounts I hav unchecked "Automatically download all attachments" for an Exchange-account. But mail still downloads all the attachements. So I end up with a folder with over 64 Gb of data. Why?

    I also have this problem,

     

    We run an IMAP account and we don't want all attachments downloading onto our local machines automatically so we untick the box under Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced.

     

    However, we have phone voice recordings emailed to us as MP3 and mail embeds them into the email for ease of listening and it downloads them all regardless of the preferences saying not to download attachments automatically?

     

    Can anyone advise please?
