Airport Card AR5BXB72 (Atheros) into 2008 Mac Pro

Hi all

So I bought this card, after it was advertised on amazon that it would fit my Mac Pro

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0053C13D8/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8 &psc=1

and of course didn't read the comments on amazon and i'd like to try get this to work today if it's at all possible.

the main issue is, the Airport card has connectors 0,1,2 on it, and of course the mac pro has connectors 1,2,3 for Airport.

Now having checked out quite a lot of installation guides and other forum posts, the best thing i saw was somebody saying that connecting 1 to 0, 2 to 1, 3 to 2 worked for them, however for me it does not.

Can anyone shed some light as to the actual proper wiring in this scenario, or is this simply the wrong card.

NOTES:

I am using Lion (10.7.3)

I cannot see Airport/Wi Fi as an option in network configuration if I go to add a connection with the + box.

please help, thanks.

okay Jim, as far as I know, #1 and 3, put 3 on socket zero and 1 on socket one. If you see one labelled Bluetooth, it's okay to leave that one alone.

try this:

could be 2 or 3

better yet, try this

http://tim.id.au/laptops/apple/macpro/macpro_early2008.pdf

things get complicated. Sometimes the wires might be mislabelled, and sometimes the airport cards have 2 connectors, sometimes 3, and it's tricky...some have said they have better luck with 2 and 3, some with 1 and 3

there's one thing for sure: I'm probably wrong, but there's a slim chance I may get it right

well, I tried..you'll probably get it right eventually, but don't give up. I think after you install it, you have to change your network connection from Ethernet to Wifi, then ask it to search for available WiFi networx???

sorry about that jim. here is a link to the official 2009 "Nehalem" Mac pro wifi card, which is known to work.

I checked on amazon UK and didn't find that card, however, I found the 3 connector card you posted a picture of

and it does say it works with all Mac Pro's from 2006 onward, which I find hard to believe...... the same card is listed as possibly working in a Macbook Pro.....maybe the vendor was confused?? I know I am, for sure

you could try this one

maybe you can go for a refund, and try something else

good luck to you
