iPad receives but will not send mail. Why?

This is my first post so I ask folk to be gentle with me! I have seen on these forums that other people have experienced the same problem but cannot see anywhere that Apple have responded to it. I know that all the settings are correct as this email address works flawlessly on my Windows desktop and, as I say, the pad does receive mail. The message that I get is that the recipients address is rejected by the server. I have spent a long time on the phone to 1and1 with which company all our domains are registered and they cannot resolve the issue so short of ditching this iPad for something else, can anyone offer more information or, better still, a cause and resolution?

This is an iPad user to user forum, so you are not addressing Apple.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.
