How to recover lost footage on Photo Booth?

Try digging around in the Photo Booth Library by control+click on the Photo Booth Library and choose the "Show Package Contents" option.

Arrow? I do not see one. Please post a screen shot. Which os are you working with? Although not sure what you did or clicked on, look inside your Photo Booth Library folder for your recorded video.

I pressed every arrow key on my keyboard while recording in Photo Booth & nothing happened. I am going to request a host to move your post to the iSight forum area. Photo Booth is ingrained with iSight. There is a user there name EZJim who is an expert in these type of matters. I suspect your video recording is lost because I cannot fathom why you are hitting any keys on your keyboard while recording! Unless you are using an os that I am not using that has Photo Booth + keyboard recording options.

To prevent your computer from going to sleep while you are recording - system preferences/Energy Saver - set computer & display sleep to never. When you are done, reset your Energy Saver settings.

Here are a couple of other things to try.

1. Have Photo Booth create a new library by renaming your current Photo Booth Libarry by adding .old to the end. Launch the app and a new Photo Booth Library should be created.

2. Create a new user or do a test video run in the guest account. If you are able to record video in a new user it's something isolated to your user and will require more troubleshooting.

As you have found, if Photo Booth's tray contains one or more thumbnails, and if active recording is in progress when you press a keyboard arrow key, "The video just disapears... It doesn't even save!"

I know of no way to retrieve the unsaved recording. Your only option is to try to recreate the video.

In general, if there is any picture or video in Photo Booth's tray, pressing an arrow key while Photo Booth is the active (foreground) application:

 • immediately terminates on-going video recording

 • changes which image or video is selected in the Photo Booth tray

 • displays the selected item.

The only way I know to prevent terminating Photo Booth video recording when an arrow is pressed is to delete all images and videos from the Photo Booth tray before starting a video recording. Before deleting them from the Photo Booth tray, be sure to export and save any images or videos you want to keep.

I know of no easy way to get them back into Photo Booth's tray (database) once they are deleted.

Photo Booth is a basic, "fun", application that makes quick snapshots and videos. For future serious video recording, consider using iMovie, QuickTime Pro, or QuickTimeX instead of Photo Booth
