Remove phone number from iCloud from waterlogged and dead iPhone

I recently waterlogged an iPhone 5, and is short circuited. I also upgraded to Verizon Edge, and had to turn that phone in for a Galaxy S5, but my number is still on my iCloud account. Can anyone help me remove my number? I already tried removing the phone from iCloud, and that did nothing except take away the phone itself. The number is still active on my iPad. I have disabled that number in iMessage and FaceTime, but is there a way to completely remove that number from my iCloud account?
