Thai SIM card won't work - why?

Bought a dtac SIM for my 4s but it says SIM invalid and carrier not allowed. I will be in Thailand for over 3 months and obviously want to use my iphone on a local SIM rather than UK one. Or will I need to buy a diffrent phone? SURELY Apple products should accept other country's SIMs! Or do I have to unlock it somehow? Any ideas anyone?

Depending on where you purchased this phone in the UK, it might well be locked to your UK carrier. If you want to use other SIM cards in your phone then you need to buy an unlocked phone which you need to buy directly from Apple.

It sounds as if your phone is locked to your carrier in the UK and the only way to get your phone unlocked is to go to your carrier and place an unlock request to get the phone unlocked and then you can use other SIM cards.

Contact your UK carrier to get your phone unlocked. They are the only ones who can unlock the phone for you.

Thank you, Ethmoid!

Just spent ages on the Vodafone Chat but the operator was really helpful and has put process in motion to unlock phone. Cost was £19.99 but they waived it for my loyal custom!! However, I still have to wait 5-7 days for it to complete... it's these apparently insignificant details which we don't realise will affect us until they do!!

I'm grateful for this forum (and you) in helping me solve the problem.
