Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
I have recently noticed that the media keys (last track, pause/play, next track) are not responing when playing music in iTunes.
Is an issue with the latest iTunes update (11.2.2) or if this is a hardware fault? and if anyone has a fix that would be apprecaited.

Same problem here and it appears on a MacBook Pro as was as on a Windows 8.1 computer. So I think Apple's Developers broke something...
I had an Apple support agent help me- we turned the keyboard and characters viewer on in menu bar and made sure iTunes Helper was a login item and had me reinstall itunes and it seems to be working fine now. If any of that's any help?
Spoke too soon, keys no longer working.
That repair didn't last long.
I had a eureka moment this morning- Google Play Music basically hijack my media keys. So long as Chrome is open, the keys seem to be wired to the play store (they work normally, skipping, pausing and playing). If I quit Chrome, the keys work as normal with iTunes, opening and moving through the tracks.
I don't know whether this information helps but it certainly seems to answer my problem.
Yep, that is really the cause for our problem!
But after a long search-run I cannot figure out how to deactivate the media key access in Chrome. That makes me really mad, 'cause I use iTunes far more often than Google Music... :-(
I agree it is a pain- and I don't think Google have made their Chrome users aware of this. But it is a relief to know there is nothing wrong with iTunes, Maverick OR the hardware. I didn't want to have to take my brand new device back after two days.

Well someone on another thread pointed out that (if you have it) by removing the Play Music shortcut from Chrome resolves the issue as well. So you can still use Chrome if you wish..
Good stuff! Thanks for pointing this out! I am guessing this is a Chrome issue, not Apple issue (I am assuming this is a Google issue).
It would seem to be, though like I said once the Play app is removed everything works fine. It is a relatively new feature still, so they might be working on a fix for the hijack issue..
