How do I add a new category for my podcast?

If your are using a podcast creation program or service it should provide a way of adding a category. In the unlikely event that you are hand-writing your feed this Apple Tech Note explains howto format the tags:

Note that only the first category will appear in the iTunes Store. However, even if you add a second category searching just on the category in the iTunes Store is most unlikely to throw up your podcast. There are thousands of podcasts out there, and it would be quite impossible to display on one page the entire list for any category. What you see are 'featured' podcasts, chosen by Apple as being special; please see this Tech Note:

Note that there is no way you can influence the selection other than making your podcast really special.

You can't change anything at all in iTunes - it simply reads the feed. You can change it in Libsyn, though I can't advise on exactly how - Robert Walch works for them and posts here, so he will likely chip in and advise, or you could look in their documentation if you are unclear about it. Any change will probably take several days to appear in the Store.

To change or add categories to your libsyn feed - in your libsyn UI - click on "Destinations"

Then find the line for Libsyn Classic Feed - and click edit.

Then change add your iTunes categories from the drop down options in the iTunes category section and click save.
