Iphone 4S charging is acting weird after updating for the first time in a few months.

First off, I take great care with all of my electronics including my phone. I've kept my iphone in pristine condition but have neglected to update it's software since probably February or March. After updating it, I would plug it in to charge and after a moment it would begin giving me the tone that it had been plugged in and unplugged over and over. I've read up on this and have since stopped using any of my third party chargers.

The problem is now this: Each time I plug my phone in it will only charge around ~%20 of the total battery life (according to the % indicator) and not go any further. I have noticed that I can actually unplug and replug-in only to find it had only charged yet another ~%20 more after a while. I have cleaned its connectors, tried all of the tips and tricks I've found across the forum. It seems to me that it's something going awry with the software.

I've jumped through all those hoops prior. Before this morning I'd been continuing to battle the phone as it slowly gained and lost charge (while plugged in mostly, mind you) over several days and has now become a brick. Plugged in it displays the extremely low battery indicator and never comes up. The phone was running the absolute most basic features and still the problem persisted.

I took my phone to Verizon the day before yesterday, where associates were baffled and claiming that they are seeing more and more iPhones coming in with odd charging issues. They claim to have run the same battery test that Apple uses, on my 4S and said that my battery was fine according to this. They were confused as to why it didn't gain a single percent of battery life while plugged in to a quick charger. It just stayed at the percentage it was at when it had been plugged in. Yesterday, at a few points I unplugged the phone and watched the indicator actually go up a few percent. Also interesting, it decided to warn me of %20 battery life when the indicator was already well below (%12~).

Verizon associates statement was this: "At this point we can't determine the device is defective. However, you can claim insurance on your phone if you have it. There's nothing we can do until Apple releases another update and hopefully fixes the problems."

Okay, so I didn't break it. Apple would you like to pay my deductable?

Accountability is something more and more large companies are getting away with not having. Lead by horrible example.

I have a perfectly good phone that has become a brick because of the latest iOS update. There is absolutely no reason as to why they continue to not even so much as say they're aware of the issues.

This problem was not caused by the update. Have you done the following:

Inspect the charging port area for dirt/debris/fluff build-up that may be preventing a good connection and use a wooden toothpick or a can of compressed air to clean it. Also look for bent or broken pins. Try another cable and/or charger block (be sure to always use a genuine Apple certified brand) in a known good outlet. If you're using a USB port, try another port. If you're using a hub, try a direct connection. If you're using a USB port in the front of a desktop computer, try one in the back.

Yes, the charging port is clean and free of debris. Charging behaves the same way (see previous) whether it is a USB or the wall charger. All connections have been tried through three separate Apple proprietary cables/charger bricks in several outlets around the house and in every usb port in three different computers/laptops.

What proof do you have that it isn't caused by the update? I had zero issues until 7.1.1. Ever since that exact day, it's been nothing but a headache. Not to mention the Verizon associates saying they've had a lot of people coming in with similar issues.

I know with the update to 7.0 (~December?) there were a lot of problems with the Wifi/Bluetooth not working and the only solution was replacement. That's great when it's free, but when your warranty is done and you can't afford to pay to replace a phone, you end up screwed, esp when people tell you that there isn't anything wrong and it shouldn't be like that.

(all that to say, "Courage! SuperClint!" hope you get a solution soon...)
