Font Book: system validation font errors

I am trying to install a font in the library/fonts folder so that all users may access it. The trouble is, when I login to an admin account, the font does not appear. It does not appear in any application nor in Font Book. I can see in the library/fonts folder that the font is present and so it should work. So then I tried to install it from this admin users account and a Font Validation window appears with the following message:

"serious problems were found. Do not use this font."
Further details below this message indicated a problem with:
"system validation".

Could anyone explain why?

I know the font is not corrupt. The problem seems to be with the Mac OSX system not being able to share the same font across all user accounts - even though the font has been placed in the correct folder, the library/fonts folder, which is the global font folder from which all users should be able to access fonts.

At this point it only seems to affect admin account - admin accounts cannot access all the fonts in the library/fonts folder.

Thank you,

PS I see on the internet a number of other people have had the same problem but so far there seems to be no known solution. Will we have to wait for an update to Tiger to have this corrected?

My system specs:
Tiger OS 10.4.6
Font Book 2.0.2
G3 blue and white mac
768 RAM

g3 b&w, Mac OS X (10.4.6), 768 RAM

I don't have time to go back and recreate the problem but trust me - it happened. If I have more time later I might try to duplicate it again and post back. The other reports were found on this discussion group doing a search for

"Font Validation"
"serious problems were found"
"system validation".
I can't recall which search I used.

Sorry I am not being very helpful - you are right I should have documented the font I used. All my fonts are purchased fonts and of good quality. Many of my fonts are the ones that came bundled with Adobe Applications I purchased such as ai8, ai9 and CS2. It may have been Eric Gill's Joanna or another display font called Greymantle or it might have been one of my Adobe CS2 fonts Warnock Pro maybe? I should have written this down. But believe me, this happens.

Thanks for the additional info.

As a general rule, no one has problems putting fonts in Library/Fonts that can be accessed by all user accounts. So your particular issue would most likely be caused by the particular fonts involved or the installation method, and less likely by some kind of permissions glitch on your machine or by the app you are trying to use the font in.

The most common cause of Mac fonts not working is when users don't remember that Type I (postscript) fonts require two files to be installed (FFIL and LWFN) and not just one. So if you do experience this in the future with a Type I font, you might want to double check that.

Personally I have not come across other reports of your specific problem here in the forums. If you do find some in the future, let us know the urls and we might be better able to help.
