iCal Synching and Notifications on iPad

I have an iMac, iPhone, and iPad. All three have my calender on them and they are synched via the iCloud. The problem is that for some reason the iPad has multiple copies of some repeating events. And when I get reminders now I get simultaneous beeping from my phone, iPad, and iMac.

One thing I want to do is to remove duplicate events from my iPad. I'm probably missing something obvious but on the iPad I can see how to edit or add events but not how to delete them. I would actually be fine if I could tell the iPad "just pick up the calender currently on the iMac and delete all calender info currently on the iPad". I tried connecting my iPad to the iMac and synching. I thought in the past I saw an option to simply erase all the info on the device being synched with the server (desktop) machine but I couldn't find it.

The other thing I would like to do is just completely disable all alerts and notifications from the iPad. I always have my phone with me these days although I also spend a lot of time on the desktop so I don't mind getting two sets of reminders. But the reminders beeping on the iPad aren't needed at all. I like still having the calender on the iPad because when I'm travelling it's easier to view and edit the schedule on the iPad then on the phone but for notifications when I travel I just want the phone to do all the alerts. I've tried disableing calender alerts in the settings for the iPad but I keep getting them.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.
