Jun 14, 2015 10:14 AM in response to Hmanaa2017by Yogoodman,I have the same issue with the iPod Touch Gen 5 which is advertised with 64GB but available memory is only 56.7GB as the rest is used up by the O/S! On the earlier iPod Touch I could store all my pictures and music which do not fit on to my new iPod! What is the solution other than returning the new device and sticking to the older version?

Jun 14, 2015 10:38 AM in response to Yogoodmanby lllaass,Just what "older version" are you talking about?
The 64 GB versions of earlier iPod touches only had a few 10s MB more of user storage since the OS took up less storage.
Just what happens when yo try to sync the same media to the 5G iPod?

Jun 14, 2015 12:45 PM in response to lllaassby Yogoodman,I had an iPod Touch 64 GB that I bought 3 years ago. I could store up to 5100 songs and 1 years photos on this device. Last week I bought an iPod Touch gen 5 with 64GB memory, but it only has 56.7GB available and I cannot store the same 5100 songs and 1 year's photos on the new device! I have read the article and been on chats with Apple support to get straight answer, which I have not received after spending over 2 hours of interaction with Apple support. Very simply, I am better off with an older version than getting an "upgraded" new generation iPod Touch!

Jun 14, 2015 12:57 PM in response to Yogoodmanby lllaass,The same number of songs should fit on the 5G if yo sync them the same way. In the Summary pane for the iPod in iTunes there is a box under Option to compress songs (Convert higher bitrate songs to XX kb/s ACC). XX of 128 is a good compromise of size and quality.
Regarding the photos. The 5G takes much higher quality photos (5 mega pixels vice 0.9 MP) than the 4G and thus they take up more storage. Same for videos.
