OS X can't be reinstalled because you aren't connected to the Internet.

I am currently facing some problems with a disk (manually removed the bootcamp partition which seemed to have messed it up) and in the process am trying to reinstall OSX mavericks using the built in recovery partition. However, when I attempt to use the reinstall OSX function it tells me that I am not connected to the Internet whilst I am (am typing this from the recovery menu). I have tried both Ethernet and Wi-Fi which both do not work.

I am on a late 2009 (maybe 2008) Macbook Unibody running the latest version of OSX Mavericks.

MacBook, OS X Mavericks (10.9.3)

Yeah basically did all that. The drive has one partition, which is my main OSX partition. The drive does not allow me to repair it and suggests I wipe it. I didn't quite agree with that suggestion and tried Diskwarrior 4.4, but that is not able to find the volume and thus cannot repair it. Through diskwarrior I was however able to diagnose the drive, which is apparently working fine (SMART status verified).

I haven't attempted to verify and repair the permissions first, because I have an install of ipython notebook that generates quite a few errors. Would verifying and repairing the permissions have a significant effect on my ability to use the volume again?

This is next to the issue I'm having with the recovery software which claims I'm not online, whilst I am, preventing me to install OSX on a tertiary volume so that I can copy the drive later.
