Apparently, using Samsung's "Kies" software is helpful when connecting any samsung device to your Mac

but otherwise.... connect up the camera with a USB cable, power up the camera, go to "Home" screen, swipe downwards to show "Notifications" ...look at "Ongoing"...you may see "connected as Media device". tap on that to show options screen, check box next to Camera (PTP). tap the "home" button, now open iphoto and the camera should show up. you could also go to android.com/filetransfer and download the Android Mac file transfer app to transfer files to your Mac.

hope that helped

Thank you JohnB for your spot on help!!! I was really dismayed with the other suggestions and was about to return my new camera. I really appreciate your help!!

One question though. When I did the above procedure and got my photo's in iPhoto, the video's didn't automatically transfer. I had to go to the Kies file and tranfer the video files by dragging them to events. Do you know if there's another way bypassing Kies. Thanks!
