Q: Size of merged library

In Aperture I've merged two iPhoto Libraries (40 GB and 46 GB), but the new Library has 110 GB. Why is it so? And can I somehow reduce this size?

    A few suggestions:

    • Don't worry about it.  Aperture is really good at managing itself.
    • You might some features turned on or available that were not turned on or available when you last used the Libraries.
    • Let Aperture run overnight, close it, and see what size the Library is.  Aperture tends to do a lot of background processing; letting it run overnight usually lets it finish all un-done tasks.
    • Repair your Library.  (Details are on Apple's Aperture trouble-shooting page.)  This should put your Library in its most efficient state.  I do this on all Libraries as part of my regular maintenance.  I have never had "repair database" make anything worse.  As with every computer file, you should never use one without having a back-up.

Also: update your OS and Aperture, or the listing in your tag line, or both.
