Q: 2 questions. 1 where is my iPhoto library 2... does iPhoto 11 upgrade still erase photos

after I installed mavericks (giant mistake) I noticed Iphoto wouldn't work.  I didn't back anything up (previous big mistake)   and I cant go back and redu everything.

I wanted to upgrade ti iphoto 11. and by the way. its not a free operating system upgrade if it forces you to purchase another product,.

so I want to upgrade iphoto so I can use it.  and this time i was warned to make a back up of the iphoto library

except it not only doesn't work. the whole library is gone.

so where do I go from here

Choose Home from the Finder's Go menu, open the Pictures folder, and drag the iPhoto library item to a drive, partition, or disk image formatted as Mac OS Extended. If you've manually put it somewhere else, you'll need to find it.

iphoto library in pictures is a blank pice of paper. if I do anything with it I am told I cant use the old iphoto with my maverics opperating system.

but.  I don't really understand whatyou mean by dragging it to a drive.  as far as I know I only have one drive on my computer so how would I drag it to another drive?

I think I understand dragging it to a partition.  You mean to a section like desk top or home. but when I do that it says the same.

Get an external drive, select it in the Finder, choose Get Info from the File menu, check its format, and if needed, open the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and erase it with Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format; if it's a brand new drive and wasn't specifically intended to be used with Macs, it'll need to be erased first.

Yes, if it's a Mac. You can either use a network or target disk mode to transfer the library to it.
