Q: Connect airport extreme to xfinity wireless router

I run mavericks on MacBook Pro, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.66 GHz, Memory:          8 GB and I have the new xfinity wireless mopdem. I'm running an ethernet wire to the aiport extreme but I don't seem to be able to hand off vfrom one wireless router (xfinity) to the other (Extreme) when wanderig about my house. I use airport utility 6.3.2 and I joined the network, named it the same and put the password in, I think. Alas, doesn't seem to work. Any ideas at all?

many thanks!

MacBook Pro (17-inch Early 2009), OS X Mavericks (10.9.3)

Since you have both routers interconnected by Ethernet and your goal is to be able to roam with MacBook Pro, you want to configure both routers for a roaming network.

The option to "join a wireless network" should not be used when extending a network. Instead your AirPort Extreme should be configured to "Create a wireless network" and reconfigured as a bridge (DHCP & NAT disabled). Both routers should be broadcasting their own Wi-Fi network but must use the same Network Name (aka SSID), wireless security type (WPA or WPA2) and wireless security password.

Wow! This is great. I named the network on my Xfinity router so is enough to just name my extreme "network" the same? Or do I need to do some sort of SSID naming? Do you know how I can  figure out which security type my xfinity network uses?

Thank you again, this is really helpful.
