Q: Match process stalling out at end

I've been using iTunes Match for about a year and a half and have started experiencing a new problem in the last couple of days.  I've added a few new tracks to my library over the last couple of days and have attempted to "Update iTunes Match." However, the matching process is stalling out at the end.  It looks like it's just about to finish but then it never does.  I have downloaded the most up-to-date version of iTunes, I have stopped and restarted the "Update iTunes Match" process numerous times.  I have closed and reopened iTunes several times.  I have restarted my computer and started over.  Etc. Etc. and the same problem keeps occurring.  Last night, I let the matching process continue overnight and it still had not finished in the morning.  I am at my wit's end at this point.  It's only 11 new songs that I'm trying to get iTunes to Match.  Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to resolve this problem?  Thanks!

Like many others I have experienced the issue of non-matching of new items in the iTunes library. I contacted Apple support who confirmed that I had already taken all the steps that they would have advised to check out the problem.

They suggested that I e-mail the issue to the iTunes Support Team ( as there is no face-to-face contact for this service)

I received the reply below from them - whether this means that it will be rectified soon, who knows ..... but at least they have recognised the issue and are working on it.

This is Christopher, your iTunes Store Advisor. This is in response to your previous email. I understand that you are unable to upload your songs through iTunes Match. Rest assured, I will provide necessary information regarding this concern that is currently under investigation.

First, I would want to sincerely apologize for the inconvenience regarding this concern.

We've actually set this as an on-going issues. We’ve escalated your case to our iTunes Engineering team. When this happens, the process can take longer than a standard tech support exchange. Engineers work at a high level, looking for root causes and solutions that will improve everyone’s iTunes experience.

I’ll email you status updates weekly to let you know how the investigation on your case is going.

    We appreciate your patience, John.

Thank you for choosing iTunes Store. Have a nice day!

    Sincerely,

    Christopher

    Thanks John for the update.

My iTunes match is still broken, it's better - the bar actually moves and it starts trying to match on Stage 2, but still ultimately hangs. Obviously something very badly wrong on the Apple end of things (despite their service status continuing to say everything is fine - major bug bear of mine!).

Hopefully they'll sort it soon, it's been broken for well over a week now. Really really poor from a company supposedly doing lots more Cloud things in the next releases... doesn't look like a good sign.

    Stuart.

Michel, I have done that and every other combination of Genius update and on/off, Match on/off, Store logout/in, reencoding new files in Quicktime and within iTunes - and still the same result, new files are not being uploaded or matched properly.

I have not tried it with songs from the iTunes Store as I presume they would work OK

I've managed to fix the issue purely by stumbling across a solution. Thanks to https://discussions.apple.com/message/18597236#18597236

It appears iTunes Match will not upload tracks for me, it checks them all and stalls on Step 3.

    To fix this:

    1. List all your songs in your library and right-click the column headers to show iCloud Status

    2. Sort by this column and look for all of the tracks at Waiting Status

    Status.jpg

    3. Select all of the tracks at Waiting Status, right click and delete them, click Delete Items on the first prompt as shown below (This won't delete your music from your computer):

    Menu1.jpg

    4. IMPORTANT: At the second prompt that appears after you click Delete Items select Keep Files

    Menu2.jpg

    5. Select Add to Library from the File menu and navigate to your iTunes folder in the Music under your Home folder.

Leave iTunes to rebuild your library (it might take a while if you have a lot of tracks that were at waiting status). Once it is complete, update iTunes Match once it's finished and it should upload the tracks

I've done all that a million times in the last week and it does not solve the problem that is occurring here. The problem is on the Apple server side.

It appears all is back to normal. After a week of stalling on Step 2, iTunes is currently uploading tracks I have imported since June 6th. Keeping fingers crossed that it continues to work and that match works for everyone.

Still not working properly for me either. I have six tracks waiting to match. It counts down to two to check and then stalls during phase 2; restarts pahse 1 after an hour or so.

Same problem here too still. It doesn't recognize songs and tries to upload them and then gets stuck forever not moving at all. I wish Apple would fix Match already. It is such a nice service just needs to be refined and first and foremost put back to fully operational condition right now.

Hmm, it's odd that Match has started working for some of us but not others. One thing I had done when Match wasn't working was delete all the "waiting" songs from itunes. I also checked the box that said delete from iCloud because, for whatever reason, iCloud thought it had uploaded the songs when it really hadn't. I kept copies of the song files in a folder completely outside of itunes and waited for the problem to be fixed. Once Match started working again yesterday, I have been re-adding the songs to iTunes (drag-and-drop) and then selecting "update iTunes Match" from the "store" pulldown menu. I did it once last night and again this morning and both times, the songs uploaded.  Don't know if this will solve the problem, but that's what worked for me.

Worked for me last night after not working for a week, but added a new album today and I'm getting the same error -3231 again.  So it appears it is not really fixed.

Tried everything posted here and elsewhere no change for me here in the UK I've been a subscriber for a long time have a 11,000 tracks in the cloud and now I'm stuck on step 2 uploading 8 tracks. Really this is a massive nightmare I'm away soon and need this working!

Same problem happening here. Can't add new music, just keeps stalling. Glad to see it's being picked up by the team - hopefully they get a fix soon!

An update ..... I had an email from the Itunes Team as follows .........

    Dear John,

This is Christopher, your iTunes Store Advisor. This is regarding your previous concern with iTunes Match. It appears that the issue was resolved by the Engineering Staff, you can now try to re-do the 2nd process of iTunes Match.

I hope this information helps. If you are in need of further assistance, please don't hesitate to reply to this email. Thank you for choosing iTunes Store. Have a nice day!

    Sincerely,

    Christopher

Unfortunately, I have attempted to run match on both my iMac and on my MacBook Air and neither completes. Although I do indeed get past step 2, it now hangs on Step 3 with only the new items left to match/upload. I have replied to iTunes support that, with respect, it is NOT fixed and asked them to look again.
