Q: Match process stalling out at end

I've been using iTunes Match for about a year and a half and have started experiencing a new problem in the last couple of days.  I've added a few new tracks to my library over the last couple of days and have attempted to "Update iTunes Match." However, the matching process is stalling out at the end.  It looks like it's just about to finish but then it never does.  I have downloaded the most up-to-date version of iTunes, I have stopped and restarted the "Update iTunes Match" process numerous times.  I have closed and reopened iTunes several times.  I have restarted my computer and started over.  Etc. Etc. and the same problem keeps occurring.  Last night, I let the matching process continue overnight and it still had not finished in the morning.  I am at my wit's end at this point.  It's only 11 new songs that I'm trying to get iTunes to Match.  Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to resolve this problem?  Thanks!

    Hi All.

Just to update everyone. Starting to seem some strange occurances.

    1. On the good end: An album that I downloaded last night on MacBook from Amazon - has suddenly showed up and was able to download on iMac in Office. Whats strange is I specifically didn't even try to match it as Match has been so useless recently.

    2. On the bad end: I tried to match multiple other things thinking suddenly things were working. Nope. Can't get anything further to match. Same as before. Must've been some sort of fluke.

    3. On the very bad end: In the middle of all this I notice that an older album that was matched a year ago, suddenly showed up with multiple tracks "available" for download. Now whats strange is that the tracks that show as available are duplicates of already existing track names - but the music is completely different music. For instance, the album is an The Replacements album, but the songs that show available have the correct track names, but the music itself is from Aaron Neville album - an album that I also own. So somehow match has duplicated track names of one album, but chosen music from another album.

I'm really hoping that #3 doesn't represent some further corruption thats happening to Match. Imagine if suddenly all your tracks were duplicated with tracks of the same name but different music! If that happens, I will dump Match in a heartbeat and maybe go with Amazon's service.

What is (or is not) interesting about this is that there are other aspects of iTunes Match which are working perfectly fine still.  For example...

    • I modified some playlists on my home computer and the modifications showed up on my work computer without me having to do a thing.
    • I changed the genre of one song on my work computer and logged into my home computer and the change was there.  I made another metadata change on my home computer and shortly thereafter the change appeared on my work computer.  Again, without having to do a thing.

So, iTunes Match isn't 100% broken as some aspects of it continue to work while the uploading clearly isn't not for many of us.

It seems to only be adding new songs for users with higher song quantities and that only.

    Hi,

I was probably luck to get tracks matched or uploaded in the last few days. After my last post, I got a free track from Amazon - not yet available in Itunes. I have been unable to upload this track. I believe that more and more people are having this problem.

The backlog of tracks awaiting to be uploaded must be enormous. It appears to me that the process is partially completing as when I delete a "waiting" from my second library, the iCloud Status changes to "Removed" on the library with the actual file - this is what happens when you delete tracks from the cloud from another library (a process I use regularly to keep my totals below 25K.

So Apple needs to fix the server problem that is preventing the final upload from completing.

    Jim

From my experince Apple will just cross their fingers and hope this goes away. There are so many problems witj match and they are incapable or more than likely unwilling to sort it out. As long as they have your cash they don't care.

Yes this is crazy.. I got lucky to found this thread, I've been spending hours and hours to restore my MacBook, update again & again.. nothing so far.

Glad to know I'm not the only one. But for 24.99€/year, this is not supposed to happen.

What I'd like to know, as paying customers of this "music service," why haven't we gotten an email from them acknowledging the problem, apologizing, and telling us when we can expect it to be completed?  I wouldn't care if takes a WEEK - just tell us!  Where is the communication?  So unprofessional........

    Hi All.

I've been running some experiments and have found some interesting results. I wanted to share so that others can help me test / brainstorm.

I can successfully import and Match. However only when the CD is ripped with iTunes itself. Unfortunately for me, this completely destroys my workflow.

I rip my CD collection to FLAC for archival purposes using XLD - then I convert with "Music Convertor Pro" to M4A for inclusion into iTunes. This is currently broken, as the only way I can match is by doing everything via iTunes.

I'm hoping this is just a technical glitch, as if this is some sort of new braindead policy I will dump iTunes / iCloud / Match etc and move on to opensource solutions.

    Can others confirm this finding?
