About plus/minus 1MB per hour, however Satellite view will absolutely suck data.
Apple's Maps app uses vector graphics, so it doesn't have to download data everytime your view changes, & also has an offline mode...you can download quite a large area over WiFi & then use this cache to navigate.
So, I really wouldn't worry too much about its data usage. Most tests I've read indicate it uses about 80% less data than Google Maps.
How do I use the cache to navigate.??
Pick out an area you want to check out while offline. Zoom into a street-level map. Once you turn off your signal (or the signal is lost), Maps will let you zoom back into the area you selected. Done automatically.
THANKS for your input.
I have noticed you are always very helpful.
So, please have patience with me while I try to make sure I understand this.
I also happen to be going on a 7 Hour trip to Frisco, Texas near Dallas, Texas (6 Hours driving + 1 Hour Lunch break).
So, while I am at home on my W-Fi, I select the address in Frisco I am going to.
Then, I zoom so that I can see that actual street.
Do I need to save that location or leave the app open to allow Maps to let me zoom back into that area?
Since I zoomed only to the street I am traveling to, does Maps also remember the entire area from my then current location (my house) all the way to Frisco?
Using approximately 1MB per hour is not really bad.
Does using the cache to navigate save enough data to make it worth the effort.
If I use 6 MB of data driving to Frisco, Texas, how much less data will I use if I instead use the cache to navigate?
Do you have a link handy that compares the Data Usage of Apple Maps to Google Maps?
Why does Google Maps use so much more data?
I know at the beginning, the Apple Maps had some accuracy problems.
But, I used it yesterday on a 1 1/2 hour trip that I am very familiar with - without encoutering any errors.
Is Google Maps still better than Apple Maps?
Why would I want to use Google Maps instead of Apple Maps.
P.S. I would be using Apple Maps or Google Maps on an iPhone 4S.

I had heard that Google Maps uses more data than the Apple Maps.
Do you have a link handy where that comparison is made?
