Burn on my arm from lightening cable

Hi guys,

Over the weekend I took a short 20 minute nap and my arm happened to be lying on my iPhone lightening cable for the entire time. When I awoke I felt a tingling in my arm and when I checked in the mirror I had two small burns on my arm.

I posted a picture on my Facebook here

Is this a known issue? It never occured to me that this could happen, but I only thought about the fact that the contacts are exposed after this happened.

The green dot faded to a regular burn colour by the end of Monday so I am not that worried about it anymore.

Hi rmjb

i had exactly same experience last sunday. When i took short nap, within 20 min, i felt something stung on my thigh. When i woke up, i found 2 black spots, looks like bidentate insect bite. After check my bed, i found lightning cable was there and realized i got burn.

Today i visited dermatology and he diagnosed i got burn of second degree, and the wound is festered.

I think lightning cable has serious problem and dangerous especially for kids and baby. It shall be explained by apple.

Hi Evan,

Was anything done about this?

I have just searched and found this post after experiencing exactly the same thing two days ago.

When I was about to wash my face Sunday morning I saw a black mark on my cheek which looked like soot. When I cleaned the area I found a wound and what looked like what I can only describe as a blackhead just above the wound.

I had no idea how I came about this very odd damage to my cheek until later that day when I went to connect the lightning cable to my ipad to charge it and saw the same black soot on a couple of the exposed contacts.

I use my ipad Air as my alarm clock and fell asleep unknowingly with the lightning cable next to my face as the ipad had fallen off my bedside cabinet disconnecting the live cable and leaving it on my pillow.

It seems to be healing ok although has caused some embarrassment at my work place 😊
