Q: In Final Cut Express clips fail to queue in log

In Final Cut Express 4.0 clips fail to queue in log & transfer from my Sony HDR SR11 camera.  Clips selected for importing appear to be moving to the queue but no progress shows on the progress bar.  Clicking on the clip in the queue shows a stop sign with an ! but no file.  Changing the audio input from Matrix to stereo doesn't help.  Video is Apple Intermediate Codec  I'm on a new MacBook Pro OSX Version 10.9.3 with a 2.3 GHZ Intel Core i7 processor.

    Couple of things:

    1) I believe in order to import AVCHD material, your copy of FCE must be updated to version 4.0.3

    2) Are you sure you shot in HD? Standard definition files do not transfer via Log and Transfer.

    3) FCE was discontinued in 2011, there have been many anecdotal reports of FCE problems on Mavericks. Some say it works, some not.

    4) Have you tried trashing your FCE preferences? That is the usual first step when FCE begins to act in unexpected ways. Download Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion (free)

    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/

and trash your preferences. They will be restored to default the next time you launch FCE.
