Entourage, Yahoo, & Mac

I am trying to set up my email accounts and no luck. What i want to do is use Entourage to filter my emails coming in and out. I have a business yahoo email (upgraded POP email). I don't think I am setting it up write because i am receiving emails that are coming into my .mac email and i can't send emails out at all (from either Entourage and Mail).

Personal Information
I have my name and the yahoo business email in there

Receiving mail section:
I have my account id the same as I have my account id for Yahoo(tjborislaff).
for "pop server" I have: pop.mail.yahoo.com
password: i put one in (same as my yahoo account password)

Then for the outgoing mail section
I have "smtp.mac.com.tjborislaff"

Then I go to send an email from Entourage and I get this Error message:
"Entourage cannot find the server. Verify the server information is entered correctly in the Account Settings, and that your DNS settings in the Network pane of System Preferences are correct. Error 3176"

I went to this Network pane of System Preferences and it might as well be in a foreign language to me...

If you can help me shed some light on this it would be GREATLY appreciated!

Your post is somewhat confusing.

To confirm - you can receive messages with your Yahoo business account and with your .Mac account using Entourage or Mail but you cannot send messages with either account using Entourage or Mail?

Who is your ISP used for connecting to the internet?

You cannot use the .Mac SMTP server to send messages with another email account. The .Mac SMTP server can be used to send messages with a .Mac account only.

You need to select Yahoo's SMTP server to send messages with your Yahoo Business email account and select the .Mac SMTP server to send messages with your .Mac account.

But depending on your ISP used for connecting to the internet, most ISPs now block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network or not provided by the ISP on Port 25 which is the common Server Port for SMTP servers. Some ISPs allow the use of an authenticated SMTP server only that is outside of their network on Port 25 (such as the .Mac SMTP server) but some block its use regardless. These restrictions are in place as part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from the ISP's domain.

i have dsl out of my home, if that helps the cause

the new message i am getting says:
AN OPERATION ON THE SERVER TIMED OUT. THE SERVER MAY BE DOWN, OVERLOADED, OR THERE MAY BE TOO MUCH NET TRAFFIC

You need to contact BellSouth to ask about their required settings when using an email account and SMTP server that is not provided by BellSouth such as when using the Yahoo SMTP server for your Yahoo business account and when using the .Mac SMTP server for your .Mac account.

Any reason why you are doing everything via webmail access for your BellSouth email account?

Are you aware you can access your BellSouth email account with the Mail.app also?

And when doing so, you can select/use BellSouth's SMTP server to send messages with your Yahoo and .Mac email accounts which should work and resolve the problem which is invisible to all recipients.

You can get the account information to setup and access your BellSouth email account with the Mail.app from BellSouth's website or by calling BellSouth customer support.

What you need is the following:

Incoming Mail Server

User Name for the account - usually the portion of your email address in front of the @ sign only but for some providers, it is the entire email address.

Account Password - this you should already know since you are accessing the account via webmail using a browser.

Outgoing Mail Server which is also called the SMTP server and the required settings for BellSouth's SMTP server.

Or you can call BellSouth's customer support to get the same information and while you are at it, ask the customer support person about the required settings when using an email account and SMTP server with the Mail.app or Entourage that is not provided by BellSouth such as your Yahoo business email account and Yahoo SMTP server and your .Mac account and SMTP server.

Or after you create your BellSouth email account with the Mail.app and after confirming you are able to receive and send messages with the account, you can select BellSouth's SMTP server to send messages with your Yahoo Business email account and with your .Mac account.

To do so after having BellSouth's email account created, go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for the account preferences, there is a SMTP server selection for the account.

Oddly enough, mail.bellsouth.net is the correct address of the outgoing server. First time I've seen this.

RookieMacUser, my suggestion at this point is to delete all of your mail accounts in Entourage and start over. There could be a number of errant settings at this point, and the only way to correct them may be to begin again.
