how do i stop having to put my apple id in every time i download an app?

I just got my iPhone and am trying to set it up. It seems like I have to type in my Apple id every time I want to download anything, even free stuff. Is there a way to set it so that my phone stores/knows my id and can skip that step?

You can stay signed in. Check in 'Settings > iTunes & App Store' that you are logged in.

For security reasons, you will be logged out automatically for long periods of inactivity, and to install an App that has never been installed on that account, you will have to always put your AppleID password in.

Hope that helped.

It is somehow possible, since I am always logged in on the App Store when I visit, it is just that I have to put the password in every time I download a new app.

Seen as you are a rather experienced iPhone user, Is there a setting for this?

Based on the OPs post, he is being prompted for the password when downloading new apps, not simply when opening the app store app. Oonce the password is set in the system, your shouldn't need to add it again just to open the store, only when making a purchases (including free downloads). That is how the system is designed to work, and is not likely to change anytime soon.
