For clarification, I'm still not sure if it matters which numbered DIMM slot the NEW Ram will be installed in?
It used to matter in older G5's that PAIRS of addtional RAM needed to be installed in MATCHING numbered DIMM slots.

FB DIMM technology takes advantage of multiple channel access. Apple recommends the use of 4 or more modules to take advantage of this 256-Bit Wide memory architecture. Modules must be installed in pairs, each module is 64 Bits Wide + 8 Bits for Error Correction (ECC).
The first page of the latest document Niel linked explains that for your Mac Pro, memory is installed in matched pairs in adjacent slots on the same Riser-card.
Largest DIMMs should be installed in the lowest-numbered slots on each riser-card.

I actually called OWC and they said to first remove the old RAM and relocate all 4 modules to the bottom card.
Then install the NEW RAM into the top card.

Iam using as you may have read and noticed over last two years, FBDIMMs from Amazon 2 x 2GB $25 total of $100 16GB
They also run cool 59*C all the time, much better
