caller id shows the wrong city

I live in Bakersfield, CA and my caller ID shows Palmdale, CA. How can I change this? Also, when a local call comes in, the caller information show that it is originating from Palmdale - about 100 miles or more from here. Why is this? My family and friends have the same issue with their iPhones.

Caller ID information is sent by the carrier and is dependent on the exchange the number is from, not the town the phone is located in. If I were to drive 100 miles from my home and call you, it will still show on the phone as coming from my hometown. I would guess the numbers assigned to cellular phones in that area are actually listed in the phone system as coming from the town you mention. That is probably where the phone switch is located.
