Motion used in any movies?

Has Motion been used in any movies/TV Spots/ads? Is it considered a professional tool like AE?

I can give you the basics:

1) create a circle (radius approximately 175 px)

2) replicate it.

  • Shape: Rectangle
  • Arrangement: Tile fill
  • stretch the size out to almost full canvas (with the onscreen controls)
  • columns: 15 (give or take)
  • rows: 9 (give or take)
  • Origin: left

3) Add a Sequence Replicator behavior

  • Parameter Add: Scale

    Set Scale to 0%

  • Sequence Control

    Sequencing: From

  • Spread: about 10 give or take

Use the pattern as a mask 1) to "paint on" the image and 2) to erase it and I think at one point, two layers simultaneously erased and painted on (giving a kind of black ring effect.) In other words, use one replicator to Image Mask Add for 1/3-1/2 duration and duplicate the replicator for another Image mask and move the second replicator's in point to about 1/2-2/3rds the play range and set the mask to subtract. There's a lot of flexibility here depending on how you want to sync up the image/video stacking. This should get you in the ballpark.

Also, Adam's Scott Matthews video seems to have the circle shape become a little vertically oblong, so you can add a second sequence replicator, add Scale, set the Scale > Y to about 120; sequencing: To; and spread to the same amount as you created for the first sequence replicator. That will slowing stretch the circle vertically over the length of the effect.

Hi Ross,

What the Fox said. ( my question I believe fox!) sort of although it wasn't that complicated.

I don't think i did build the replicator myself, It think i used the built in one, Library -> replicators ->Transitional -> Dots In Left etc. No point reinventing the wheel.

I did mess around with the sequence replicator to get it more even though.

Once I got the replicator working I probably exported it as a movie and then imported that to use as the mask. That's just me I don't like to many moving parts in a project. Another way would have been to create a Clone of the replicating layer and use that where needed.

I didn't use the mask to remove the image, I simply had a black solid above it and revealed that. And then another footage layer above that, etc etc. The effect looks more complicated because sometimes the footage being revealed changes mid flow.

ll quite simply really. The reason why we did this was because we didn't have any footage, and the stuff we did have the artiste didn't like, so we had to try and disguise it.

In answer to your other question, yes all titling is done in Motion. even the 3D stuff. I used to build 3D titles in Cheetah 3D and export movies into Motion. Then I discovered Element 3D, which was great , After Effects only sadly. But now we have mObject from motionVFX which is great and motion 5.0 all the way.

thanks

adam
