Q: Bar on screen unresponsive for the most part with iOS 7.1.1

About two weeks ago, I noticed a periodic issue on my iPhone where there is a half an inch long bar going horizontally across the screen a little over halfway down.I have tried resetting the phone seven times, and the issue either appears shortly after I reset the phone (i.e. when it's on any random screen), or becomes noticable once the phone prompts you to set your nation. Additionally, I have had the phone checked out by Apple (they suggested I perform the latest reset) and I have had different screens put on it by authorized phone repair persons to show that it wasn't a hardware issue. In the last week or so, the issue has occurred about 95% of the time, and prevents scrolling of articles, clicking on apps, and sending of messages in various apps. I thought it was originally a software issue at first, until I reset the phone independent of the computer and the same issue was happening, even before I restored what I had on there before. At this point, I am ready to jailbreak and downgrade to a slightly older iOS system just to see if it will be any different, as I am suspect that one of the recent updates might have something to do with it, but I am posting here first, just to see what others might think.

iPhone 4S, iOS 7.1.1, Phone is 2.5 years old

First, I think jailbreaking is not necessarily to troubleshoot and now you have void all support including this forum.

    Read this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3743

Secondly, iPhone 4S do not have this issue with IOS 7.1.1.

I'm not ready to do that yet, as I am coming here to see if anyone would be able to help me figure out why the bar has been happening in the first place. One thing I have noticed now is that it is not as frequent since reset number seven, but it still is occuring about 50% of the time.

Have you done the 4Rs troubleshooting steps?

    Restart:

    1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.

    2. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

Reset: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Note: You will not lose any data

    Restore from backup

    Restore as new

If no joy after the last step without the backup, make an appointment with the Apple genius for an evaluation.

I've done all of those, and until I posted this the other night, I was getting nothing different. The issue seems to have subsided from being there most of the time, and it has now become a minor annoyance. When I was restoring it as new, I found the issue first popping up when i was entering the passcode, since it wouldn't let me bypass that screen. I am sure that it also occurred in the previous screens as well, but it wasn't as much of an issue since they were scrollable. In terms of what can be done though, I am tempted to reset it for an eighth time just to see what might happen, as it took seven resets just to get it so that it would be in operational condition (i.e. where I could actually use the phone without part of the screen being dead).

If after the 4Rs and still no joy, make an appointment with Apple genius for an evaluation.
