I can successfully send and receive messages with all but one friend. When her name appears in the "To:" box, it is green (names on my successful messages are blue).
I followed the directions in the Support pages, but still cannot send a message to this friend—what do I need to change?

If you can iMessage other iPhone user, then the issue is with your friends phone, especially if her contact is green instead of blue.
It could be your friend has iMessage off or not activated. Another possibility is that she is in an area with a weak wifi or cellular data signal. Or she is no longer an iPhone user.
