RSD repair status: On hold - Part on order

My Macbook is at the Memphis repair facility to get the shutdown problem fixed. When I check the repair status, the message I get is "On hold - Part on order ".

Does anyone know the estimated time of arrival for this part in question?

Thanks

Hi Donald,

Mine's been waiting for a part since Sept 1. I just hope it gets the right "fix", this new logicboard/heat sink combo that I've read about. With that we'll hopefully be done with the dreaded RSD!

Oh yeah I've read the same, some are a few days (but some of those already have experienced RSD's after repair) to several weeks. I'm thinking another 3-5 days, given the backlog waiting for these new parts.

My Macbook has been at the depot since Oct 25th with an estimated date of Sept 16th for the part to arrive. Same heatsink as everyone else. Prior to this they had my Macbook for another week and a half to repair a faulty logic board (onboard ethernet was bad). Customer service was unwilling to swap out for a new Macbook or expedite in part. Hold times were over 2 hours to talk to a customer service rep. From my own experience, call them via Apple care...wait for a real person, and ask for them to do a worldwide parts search. After 48 hours, if they don't have the parts expedited to the service depot, they are obligated to "take the next step." If you are patient through this process and follow up after the 48 hours of their "worldwide search," they will do the right thing. They replaced our MB after being unable to find the parts anywhere in the world. I'd be persistent, and they will come through for you.

Elsewhere on this forum there is the implication that a new improved heatsink is being manufactured and that is the hold-up. Worldwide search won't help if the parts are not made yet, but it seems impossible to get consistent/accurate information. Very frustrating indeed. I just started a new non-profit and depend on my laptop for correspondence and fundraising (that's why I bought it).

i went to the fifth ave store too, just today the repair status updated to "part on hold" so the fun begins, and i sit here imagining the barbaric ritual of laptop repair :/. hopefully, given the time this happened, that the "new" heatsink makes it into my macbook, and yours, perhaps years from now we may all pass each other with repaired long-lived macbooks leeching off the same wireless network nearby, but i digress.
