Weird scratchy noise while charging

I went to charge my MacBook Air today and I noticed a weird sound coming from the computer when I plugged it in. It sounded just like the noise a hard drive makes (obviously the MBA has flash storage, not a HD). I don't know if maybe there's something wrong with the fan, or if it has something to do with the charging port, or even worse, the battery. I'll just copy/paste my battery info here:

It seems like the noise is occuring whenever I click the trackpad or while I'm scrolling (and it sounds exactly like a hard drive for some weird reason) and it only seems to happen when the adapter is plugged in. I'm guessing it has to do with either the charging port or the battery because when I remove the charger my laptop goes silent like it normally should. Any ideas on what might be going wrong??

Perhaps if an SMC reset does not appear to help this odd symptom you should

consider an Apple Store - Genius appointment to have someone investigate it.

A diagnostic may be able to help, however some odd effects not re-occurring

are harder to discover a cause.

Another thing to throw into the mix, to see if it makes any difference, may be to

see if this NVRAM and PRAM reset article helps resolve the issue. As these

things could overlap, different methods of trying to resolve them may be taken.

And this could be viewed as troubleshooting, even if there is no change after.

Hopefully this helps, but a visit to a qualified trained Apple service for diagnostic

may be revealing; should there be a hardware issue behind the symptom.

PS: edit to add: Does the Activity Monitor show any increase or change in

activity and if you have a temperature monitor on the system, does it show

an increase in temperature or fan activity when the device is plugged to AC?

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
