Websites pause before loading on my mac - the PC is fine

I just installed a new Netgear wireless router connected to my DSL modem.
When my Mac gets on a website everything loads very quickly - I did a speed test and my DSL speed is what it should be. I'm using an airport card.

My problem is that when I go to a new website my browser sits there for around 10 -15 seconds, at the bottom it says "connecting to" and then the site loads very fast. Once I'm on a site I can navigate around pretty quickly and my download speed is fast if I were to view a movie or something.

What is also odd is that I have a PC connected wirelessly to the same hub and it does not have this problem. It connects instantly to every website.

My MAC DID NOT have this problem with my old d-link hub, but that thing died and I've been told by several people not to buy one of those again.

I'm not sure what to try, this is really annoying. This "lag" also happens when I use Dreamweaver to connect to a website to FTP etc...

I've shut everything down - unplugged everything - restarted. I've reset my permissions - ran the latest software updates.

This happens in all my browsers - Safari, Netscape, Firefox, Old IE5 and even FTPing to sites using Fetch or Dreamweaver.

I have a G5 - Dual 2.7 Gig - Airport card - Firmware version 402.6

Any ideas for me to try?

Kevin

Look into SystemPreferences>Network> airport...Configure
Do you have anything in the DNSServer box?
If so, take what's in there, out.
If not, stop back. Bring the inside address of your Netgear (probably 192.168.0.1) You may want to drop that router's IPaddress into the DNS server box. Something is taking longer than it should, to look up NameServers.

While you're in there, are you set up as Configure IPv4 using DHCP?

My DNS server box is empty now.
Before I've tried putting in the wireless router IP and then the DSL modems IP as well.

Still lagging....

I'm set up as "Using DHCP" in my IPv4 setting.

My DSL modem is old, I just called to get a newer model sent, maybe that will help. Thing is - there were no issues before I put in this new wireless hub.
I was hoping there was a quick fix.

Any other ideas?

I have got no answer to your question but however I do experience the same problem. I have a brand new MacMini 1,66 Duo running 10.4.7.

The problem occurs both when I am trying to use my AirPort connection and my Ethernet connection. Did something happen when upgrading to 10.4.7?
I will go back to 10.4.6 and try again.

Hi FizzBang,
Sorry I've been busy.
Have you looked at the router's configuration again? Making sure that it's set to your ISP's specifics?
Your DSL is getting dettings from upstream. Your router is getting it's settings from DSL modem, most likely. Mac gets settings from router.
This is probably not a "Speed" issue, rather a DNS lookup issue.
(I know the PC is fine).

Perhaps they can help with a phone call to your DSL provider...in case the new DSL modem doesn't fix the problem.
