Q: how to format the hard drive to factory condition?

My Pwerbook G4 froze and then crashed. When tried to reinstall the original OSX it displayed error message when trying to rease the hard drive. The diagnostic results for hardware test showed "Pass" for the items tested.

PowerBook, Mac OS X (10.5.8), G4

    The drive may be dead.

Or the PRAM battery may need replacing.

If you can't erase the hard drive, it could be anything.

I erazed it once but it failed to format and partition it for the installation of OSX.

It seems everytime I try to install the OSX something elase goes wrong. Now I get "Fatal Hardware error" message and error in S.M.A.R.T. I need to change the hard drive or taking it out to eraze it to factory condition on a PC computer which I doubt would solve the problem. I must put in a new Hard Drive.
