How do I update to the current Maverics from Snow Leopard

I've been checking the Maveric downloads and it seems I need previous upgrades in order to download 10.2.x. Is it necessary to progressively download every version or is there a short cut? Right now I have Snow Leopard.

Upgrading to Mavericks

You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.

Upgrading to Mavericks

To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

OS X Mavericks- System Requirements

Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks

1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later

2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later

3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later

4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later

5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later

6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later

7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later

To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

Thanks Niel and Kappy but when I try to download Mavericks I get this message from both Firefox and Safari:

--------------------

The address wasn't understood

Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (macappstores) isn't associated with any program.

You might need to install other software to open this address.

---------------------

Safari goes into considerably more detail but it amounts to the same. Any other way in?

Hi Niel, you're getting in a little deep for me. . It seems there are several download options, not one of which I can understand. Thanks for the help, but I'm way outta that ball park, down in the kiddie playground I' m afraid. ....... 😟 I'm going to kick it off tonight and come back tomorrow to take another whack at it.

Thanks so much to all you gurus, I do so admire you for your devotion to the efforts of we neophites to find our way on the wild wild web.

I forgot to note,

I did a preferences check yesterday and all was well, but then I got into a real tangle trying to upload a picture from my iPhone, so I thought maybe my preferences got messed up a little, I did a check just a few minutes ago. Perhaps that's what was in the way. After the Disk Utility Preferences repair, the Apple Store accepted my attenpt to download. Just in case there's some question about the reason for the change of action, that may have been it. Maybe!
