Problem with 'Mail'

Good morning - I am using a Macbook Pro with OS 10.6.8 - my problem is with my Mail application - when I open Mail insead of just getting new emails I get the entire inbox of 1170 emails downloaded again - a few minutes later the process is repeated so that I end up with thousands of emails - any advice would be very appreciated as my email is virtually unworkable because of this - My ISP is BT and as yet I have not gone into the BT email server thing to see what has happened there.

Many thanks

Hi Eric, I have done as you suggested - I can't test it until I get some emails in the BT server as I deleted everything to stop it downloading all the time - I also went into the Mail preferences and cancelled download new mail every five minutes and made it a manual download.

I will get back to you soon - thanks again - you are the only one who responded

Good morning Eric,

Sorry for the delay in getting back - unfortunately I still have the problem but I have got round it by logging into my BT account daily and deleting all the emails that have already been downloaded to my 'Mail' application so that they can't be downloaded more than once, also changed the Mail preferences to 'Download Manually'.

It is an extra little teradiddle but it only takes a few moments and I can live with that - thanks again for your help, Eric.
