Q: Mac Pro 2013 Multiple Display Issues

greg, can you check again, multiple people are reporting 9.4 fixed the issue

I have continued to have problems with one, and sometimes both, monitors not waking from sleep.  I just upgraded tonight to 10.9.4.  Since this has always been an intermittent issue, only time will tell if it's truly fixed.  Maybe other posters have been too eager to pronounce it fixed.

Well, it definitely didn't work after I upgraded from 10.9.3, so here's what I've tried tonight:

- Reset SMC (removed power cord for 15 minutes)

- Disconnected Dell DP monitor

- Rebooted with PRAM reset

- Launched Internet Recovery and reinstalled 10.9.3 (they don't seem to have gone up to 10.9.4 with that yet).

- Reconnected Dell DP monitor

- Upgraded to 10.9.4 with combo update (after restoring permissions).

Guess what - the Dell still doesn't wake after computer has been in sleep! I'd say that my problem hasn't been fixed.

Clutching at straws, I've ordered a HDMI to DVI monitor cable which should be delivered tomorrow. I'll see if I get more luck from the HDMI port on the Mac.

Both of the new 2014 Mac Pros in the office were having monitor issues with their dual screen setups upon wake from sleep.  All monitors are connected via Thunderbolt DVI-D adapters.  On each Mac is one expensive NEC monitor and one cheap consumer-grade monitor..  All four had been having issues but the NECs were having the most issues.

Both Mac Pros were upgraded to 10.9.4 last night.  Since then, all four monitors have been 100% OK.  I've got my fingers crossed I'm not jinxing myself by speaking too soon.

As I said in my last post, I ordered a HDMI to DVI cable. It was delivered today, and my second monitor is now waking from sleep correctly every time. It seems that having the secondary monitor directly connected with DisplayPort was causing the problem. Of course, it was working fine with 10.9.2...

I'll keep my eye on the bug that I filed with Apple (still no update when I looked yesterday), but at least I've got a solution for the time being.

I just wanted to post that 10.9.4 hasn't fixed anything for Late 2013 Mac Pro with multiple monitors for me. Fingers crossed for Yosemite.

For some hope for everyone, I am pretty positive that this is an OS problem, and not a hardware issue. My boss is also running on late 2013 Mac Pro, but with windows 8 partition. He experiences no third party monitor issues.

If any of those displays have a USB connection at the computer-end, be sure to connect that to the computer or a Hub as well. It appears some displays are using that as the secondary "Back-channel" to supply EDID name and capabilities information to the Mac upon wake. No info, no picture.

I have the very same setup, a Mac Pro 2013 with two ASUS PB278Q monitors attached.

After returning from sleep or standby, sometimes also when rebooting the machine, the monitors won't work anymore. After unplugging them two or three times, the monitors will finally have a signal. It's the same behaviour both when connecting to HDMI or DisplayPort.

The monitors work fine on my Windows machine, no problems at all. Also, my 1080p SONY monitor works with the Mac Pro without this error.

It's been a hassle from the beginning, but it got worse with every OS X update that came since I got the machine in February. It seems to be an issue with high resolution monitors (2K+) and Mac OS X, since people also reported issues with other monitor models (e.g. Dell and Samsung). Let's not discuss 4K. It has also been reported, that this problem won't occur when running Windows 7 or 8 on the Mac Pro, so this does not seem to be a hardware issue.

I've been on the phone with Mac Support three times, but they did not seem to take this very seriously, ultimately sending me to the Apple Store. But they don't have any random third party monitors there. I am more than disappointed. Maybe the best idea would be to return that thing and tell them that I want my money back.

I have a pair of LG Flatrons IPS231 24". And ever since 10.9.3, they intermittently will drop out, either the left one or the right one when waking from sleep. Unplugging and plugging in has no effect. I have to reboot in rescue mode and then restart. This happens 1-3 times a day. It's making me insane. I am a power user media developer. If I have to restart constantly I might as well go back to OS 9.

Applecare/store has been useless because they can't reproduce. All I can do is keep submitting bugs to Apple or shell out $2000 for cinema displays.

I have a Asus PB278Q and a Asus PA238qr. I have tried multiple scenarios between hdmi and display port. Putting the both on the same bus, separate busses and whatever else I could think of with no solution. The PA23QR always wakes.

I see a lot of people doing all kinds of things to trigger the display to wake. I simple turn the display on and off with the power button on the display and all is well, it triggers everything to set itself up. If I do it right away it will incorrectly identifies the PA23QR as the main monitor but if I wait a second for that monitor to fully come up and then toggle the power on the PB278Q everything snaps back into place as it should.

So yes it *****, I just spent about a 4 grand 6 core mac that won't turn on my display but in the short term I can deal with toggling the power button, until they fix it. Which they better do.......

Unplugging and plugging in has no effect.

Unplugging the Mac-end of the cable is the most likely to have any effect, as the Mac detects she presence/absence/change of a cable at the Mac.

So just to be sure as I was still within my 14 day return I swapped out my system for a new one. Problem still occurs, in fact I had to specifically not have a second monitor hooked up until I finished setting up my system or everything would hang I would have to hard reset.

I have a very similar Late 2013 Mac Pro setup with dual ASUS PB278Q monitors and this has been an issue of mine since May. It amazes me how Apple has yet to fix an issue that is clearly so widespread on a machine that costs $3,000+.

Every day when waking my monitors from sleep, I turn them both on exactly at the same time, which usually does the trick. However, doing so tends to reorganize and resize my windows — which is very annoying, considering I have a particular window arrangement that works well for me.

Has anyone heard anything about an official fix? I'm really hoping Yosemite does the trick, but I'm not holding my breath. I love my Mac Pro. It's an awesome system, but this bug really does irritate me. It needs to be fixed ASAP!

  I just purchased this Mac Pro a couple weeks ago, 6 core with D500s and I can hardly get my LG 34um95 34" ultra wide monitor to turn on when I boot the computer, especially when using it in a dual config.  It does not even turn on in boot camp with Windows 8.

This definitely is sounding like an Apple software bug and it needs some attention.  My LG monitor is 2013 Mac Pro certified compatible.  Whats the issue Apple, get some people on this - Please.
