We can only hope...I'm having problems with my regular ol' MacBook, and I really want a MacBook Pro, but only if it has Core 2 Duo.

I'm praying that the MacBook Pro line is being updated today. For some reason, computer updates and major video games are released on Tuesday, so it's not out of the question.

Someone should call Apple telesales and ask them what's going on...

i dont see the big deal about core 2 duo in macbook pros. as long as the computer is reliable and promises to work well for at least 2-3 years without showing its age, it's still a faster computer than the previous powerbooks. core 2 duo wont solve any present problems anyone has in their MBP's. all i care about is hardware that works well, not necessarily the fastest.

Rob, that's one of the most reasonable posts I've seen regarding this issue, I'm glad there are a few people out there with their heads on right!

It's a shame most people don't feel this way.

I'm just happy to see that they weren't released today. People need to learn how to delay their gratification... the MBP hasn't been out a year yet, I don't think much has changed that someone needs a computer that is 25% faster, because realistically unless it's 125% faster, most people won't notice a difference.

I think there are a few people that are mostly concerned with the 64bit though... That can be anyone's appropriate argument.

since this transition to intel, the only real significance is the support youll be getting for your machine, which, given this is under a year old in generation, will be for many many years. i think some people were soured to the sudden introduction to the base model MBP being bumped up to 2.0GHz after buying the 1.83 model, and if apple keeps up with the suddenly swift upgrades to their product lines im sure people will suddenly hold off on their purchases awaiting a "superior" machine. I'd really like to buy an MBP right now, and the only thing stopping me is my blackbook(sigh), and if there is such as a C2D coming into fruition, i think i'll stick with regular CD macbook, it may very well be cheaper, even if ever so slightly.

and just to point this out, if apple does indeed have a slightly faster macbook in the works, any revisions in other components that may be determined to pose a threat to its usability (which i doubt seriously) would filter down to "rev A" MBP's, since there's no significant change in dimensions or internal layout(other than possible upgrades to cooling system to accomodate the faster and hotter CPU, which is meaningless for rev A macbooks)

if my word meant anything to apple, the C2D upgrade, if its real at all, would never happen, because its utterly pointless.

i rant often, and since no one's around to slap me, oh well.

Alas.....no new MBP. There's always the expo in Paris in a few weeks.

I'm not so caught up with having a C2D MBP. I'm more interested in finding out if Apple will redesign the MBP in the next release to allow for a more user friendly hard disk upgrade similar to what is found in the Macbook. I think it's a bit overdue, and ridiculous that the "pro" notebook line still does not have such a feature. This alone would be worth the wait. The hard disk will fill up long before the system as a whole becomes "obselete".

The C2D, again, would just be icing on the cake.

i agree with rob for the most part. after twiddling my thumbs about c2d for a couple weeks, i just went out and bought a used 12 powerbook to tide me over until apple can make a business case for updating its macbook pro's. I dont think anybody right now needs 64 bit, but i would never drop 2000+ without getting it. The speed bump will be nill today, but the promise of increased l2 caches, and santa rosa (nand memory for faster os boots and frequently accesed files, 800mhz fsb) is worth my mouth to water a little bit. It just wont be a reality until february or march when the tech rolls out. Current gen macbook pros are nothing to sniff at, and just like the "obsolete" powerbook i just bought, im sure that they will bring smiles to the faces of their users for years to come. You just lose the bragging rights.

I just noticed that Dell has a notebook with the Core 2 Duo with a 512 MB Nvidia GeForce Go 7900 GTX video card as well as a 8x CD/DVD Burner with double-layer write capability. These have been out now since the beginning of August. You'd think, wouldn't you, that Apple would be anxious to remain competitive? I wonder why they haven't introduced a notebook with the Merom processor by now?

Competitive is an interesting word to use though...

When you really think about it, it's not really Apple Versus Dell.

It's Dell Versus Gateway Versus IBM, Versus Alienware... etc.

I mean you can't really get a better analogy then "comparing apples and oranges" no pun intended.

The fact still remains that every apple I have owned, iBook, 2 Powerbooks and a MBP, have ALL outperformed every other computer I have ever owned. They all performed the same as the day I opened the box.

What I remember from when I look at the PC computers I have owned... Various Dell Desktops, Toshiba Laptops, and Dell Laptops... Their performance was good at first, and steadily declined until their deaths (with the exception of 1 Dell Desktop I currently own now). But even the desktop is probably 1/3 to 1/2 slower then when I got it... even keeping up with all adware, spyware, viruses, defragmenting, etc... this computer is CLEAN, why, cause I NEVER USE IT because I own an apple. I use it every once and a while to run Tivo To Go and a few other apps not supported on the mac.

So I think it's unfair to compare the two... Even though I see what you're saying... that if Dell has it out, apple should be right there with its counterpart. But then again all Dell does is slap parts together... they don't work on the "entire" machine. Apple slaps is computers together, but has its own OS, own applications, etc. As a company Apple has a whole lot to do. Dell just needs to keep on getting parts from Sharp, Toshiba, Sony, Intel, etc. and just slap a plastic casing around them with that little silver circle.

So Yes you're right, you would expect all manufacturers to be on the same level... but when a company has to put a lot more into their machines... mainly their own programming, you can understand why things are a month or two back.

But let's just be honest... Apple is worth the wait.

Sep 13, 2006 8:40 PM in response to ricowatatsu

Intel is already showing off their Core 2 Quad processors, why not wait till they release those in MBP? I say if you need a MBP, buy it now.. if not just wait till you do.

I also saw a news article on Inquirer & Macdailynews that core2duo's will not be out in MBP's till Januray due to supply issues. They have already decided to put them in iMac's because thats how many core2duo chips they've got, if they put it in MBP now they will not meet its demand.
