Yes, you can use games on your "older" 5th Gen iPod.
You need to upgrade to iTunes 7 and iPod Firmware 1.2 to enable this new feature.
After you download and install iTunes 7, you will be prompted to update the firmware in your iPod to 1.2
The firmware update mechanism is now built into iTunes.

I have a 5G 60 gig iPod as well and just downloaded iTunes 7 today. When I plugged in my iPod, it told me that my iPod is up to date (BTW - I LOVE the new iPod widow with all the tabs). my iPod says it is running iPod software vers. 1.1.2. but the game s require version 1.2. How do I get that version onto my iPod. I can't find the download anywhere. Only 1.2 for Nanos.

leave your iPod plugged in, quit and re-start iTunes.

It might take a couple of minutes, but it should prompt you to update your firmware to 1.2 -- on the iPod Summary page in iTunes (which is awesome, BTW), you can click the Update Button to double check.

If all else fails, check the Apple website and see if they have an alternate source to download the iPod software.

Now I've got to go check out those 80GB models...lol...

I have downloaded the new Firmware and the game tetris. But I can not install the game on my 5g iPod. I got the message that it is not allowd to play the game on my iPod.

Same here, i have a 5th Gen iPod Video and the new iTunes 7.0 and the latest iPod software which is 1.2

I dowloaded Vortex which is in my iPod Games tab but when i tried to transfer the game it said the same message, why am i not authorized to play the game that i paid for?
