computer won't recognize iPod

When I plug my iPod into my computer, it doesn't charge and iTunes doesn't recognize it, so there's no way for me to add new music. What could be the problem? Thanks!

My friend is running Windows and it is happening to her, too. Any ideas?

I am having the same problem. I plugged my nano into my USB drive, and the "charging" icon flashed for about 2 seconds, then the battery indicator returned to its original "mostly empty" view. Neither iTunes nor my computer are seeing my iPod, and no "Setup Assistant" has automatically run like the Quick Start guide said it would. I've tried multiple USB drives that work for other things and nothing changes. Please help! I want to put music on my iPod!

I have solved my problem!! I recently reformatted my computer, and somehow in the process lost all my drivers for everything - my sound card, my USB ports, etc. - and so evidently my USB ports haven't been running at 2.0 speed. I thought everything was okay because my wireless internet (though USB) was working, but I realized it runs at 1.1 as well. So I downloaded the driver from the Intel website and now everything works...it was my computer's fault, not iPod's. Hope that helps someone out...just check to see if your USB ports are working for other things that require USB 2.0 - cameras, jump drives, etc. If not, that may be your problem.

Hello all,

This is a very common Windows issue. Most likely, the device driver for your iPod is corrupted. Right click on My Computer, go to Properties, click on the Hardware tab, and click on Device Manager. If you see anything on this list has a yellow exclamation mark or question mark next to it, right click on it and choose Uninstall. The restart your computer with the iPod connected. Windows will find the new hardware and should install the driver properly. If it doesn't, you may have to reinstall Windows.
