New nano so UGLY

The first nano is absolute design masterpiece. Why oh why Apple went back to the Mini design cues? It's sooo 2004.

Sigh.

Its not UGLY, i have a pink mini, and i'm kinda upset that NOW its in the colors AND its in nano form, AND theres a color screen...i was feelin good cuz i didnt like the fact that nano's came in those easy scratch two colors, and now its just the way i like it. i might get a job and buy a blue one. who knows...i think the ugly part of the new nano however, is that colored center button, that effs it up badly, i didnt notice what looked weird until i noticed this huge colorful spot dead in the center of the clickwheel, they should just e suttle and color only the menu, back, forward, and play button like they did on the mini. the colored center button is too random and it stands out too much. btw...that nano REALLY needed the aluminum casing like the mini has, i've had mine for a year and last week, it got its FIRST irreversable scractch on it (actually, its like, a huge nick) and its only because i had it on a speaker on the nightstand next to my bed, and i accidently tugged the extension cord, sending the ipod and the speaker thing FLYING towards my bed, turns out, the only thing that can destroy metal, is metal, hence, the only thing to ever damage my ipod mini, was a bed frame note i've dropped it on wood, concrete, you name it, i've dropped it on..and not a scratch came out of it, i leave it in my purse, and it gets kicked around worse than a soccer ball (and trust me, ALOT of sixteen girls' purses are dangerous places) pens, cell phone, nothing scratched it, and i even THROW my purse on the floor occasionally, and nothing harms this thing, and you'd still think the thing was new if it werent for that new scratch on it....so this new frame that is similar to the mini is GOOD for the nano, pretty or not..,
so yeah, no more ucky scrathces all over your nano's, at least nobody will have to baby those nanos anymore, you wont have to hold it like its a piece of glass just to keep it looking new..
but anyway, i know i tend to go on and on (bad habit) lol but my point is, whether its "2004" or not, i bet the nano wont look like a mad dog got hold of it, i mean those nano's scratch too darn easy, and now, that aluminum framing that the mini had, solves the problem.

It's an older design but it's a design people liked. The mini was probably the most popular of the ipods because at the time it was smaller, but most importantly, it's aluminum casing protected against scratches. iPods owners cherish their ipods and they want it to look good. Aluminum casing does that. I think it's great (about time too) that the nano now has aluminum casing. So now it's small and compact, scratch resistent, and still maintains it look, the perfect iPod!

I completely agree. The new nano is hideous. Its the only reason I never bought an ipod before. When the nano was introduced, I fell in love with it. I bought one, along with a clear case to keep it scratch free, and I was so happy. So happy in fact that I bought one to give as a birthday gift. But now, I am so dissapointed with the redesign. For me its a step backwards in design. Im sorry if you dont agree, I know asthetics is very personal, but thats my opinion. I was so looking forward to buying a new and improved nano, but not anymore. I just hope they dont redesign the video ipod or that will totally ruin my christmas.

It's not ugly exactly, but it does seem a step back in time. And why can't you have the colour you want with the Gb you want? Are they trying to create some kind of class war?
I didn't like the mini and they didn't do a white one, so I held off buying an iPod for years. Then bought a white nano. I just hope there'll be a white version of this one by the time my nano dies!
Still no radio, I note.
But the extra memory, effectively reduced price and longer battery life all make it a better product I guess. If only it was white.

I wouldn't go that far. I agree the 1G model is looks more refined. The 2G model just looks stale to me, but not ugly. The colors are ugly (except for silver and black) but the design is just old, not ugly. I would have liked to have seem some more refined colors in the line up, like graphite or even a dark navy, but the black 8GB is going to work for me just fine.

End of the day, the nano is a great product. Color isn't going to be a make or break, but I don't think it's going to gin up exicitement either.
